Get hands on with knife making courses at the R&N Blades workshop!
Hosted at the R&N Blades workshop in Lakes Entrance, Victoria, our courses guide you through the art of knife making.
Learn tips, tricks and techniques from renowned knife maker and R&N Blades director Rob Herbert.
Upcoming fixed-blade knifemaking course dates:
The R&N Blades journey started with Rob as a young boy growing up in what was then rural New South Wales.
Rob loved watching his grandfather and father maintain the tools needed to produce food from the land and took a deep interest running trap lines and snares with his brothers’ targeting rabbits for the table and foxes for their pelts.
The ability to sharpen your knife and tools was taught by his father and grandfather. Watching them “lick” an edge up on a knife was something to see and something that is now sadly looked upon as wizardry.
After a successful career in the police force, Rob re-discovered his childhood love for knifemaking as a means of recovery from PTSD that had developed through the course of his police work - R&N Blades was born. The hard work of both Rob and his partner Naomi have built R&N Blades up from a backyard operation to a thriving business with a team of skilled employees all continuing the work of crafting high quality knives by hand.
Rob is passionate about passing on the skills and knowledge he has built up over his career to fledgling makers and outdoor adventure enthusiasts.
